Right out of box this gun shots 6 inches high and 6 inches right at 25 yards so imagine what it shoots like at 50 yards. It took me a year to spend this kind of money on a shot gun . Buying this A5 just in time for duck season . Now I have to send it back to Browning. All my life I’ve bought cheaper guns like mossburg etc. guess I have to go back to my mossburg (old faithful) for another season . NEVER BEEN MORE DISAPPOINTED IN ANY GUN I HAVE EVER OWNED THEN THE “Browning a5”

I purchased the Browning A5 after carefully considering it against the Browning Maxus, Beretta A400 Xtreme, and the Benelli SBE II. I went to my local bass pro intending to purchase the A400 but I was able to handle all of the four considerations, and I walked away with the Browning. The lively and lightweight feel of the gun and intuitive pointing and swinging persuaded my decision. I do not regret my decision, the gun shoots like a dream after adjustment using the supplied shims for cast, drop, and length of pull. It is a true instinctive pointer and I rarely use the sight beads anymore. I prefer the safety ergonomics reminiscent of the Auto 5 of old. As for the bad, recoil can be a bit harsh with 3 1/2″ loads on this “kinematic” (inertia) driven gun, and that is the only reason for which this gun receives 4 stars. 3″ high speed loads are no problem. And the gun successfully cycles any load above 7/8oz with no problems! Also, a slight negative, but no deal breaker… The sling attachment points have no rust resistance and have rusted slightly. A light coat of oil can help prevent this, but for a waterfowl gun I would expect every piece of the gun to have a rust resistant coating of some sort. I plan to arrange to shoot the A400 soon to try out their kickoff system to compare recoil.

I have held off making this review for over a year because I’m a longtime Browning owner and fan.
I have used Browning’s for the past 45 years and purchased this A5 two and a half years ago because I loved my old Belgium made A5’s which work reliably. When Browning came out with a new A5 hump-back, I had to have it. Unfortunately, this gun is not a reliable gun. More specifically, it does not load the second shell reliably. The problem is different than the stove-piping issue which I have also read about and had limited issues with. I sent it back for warranty work. They kept it 5 months. It was finally returned this week and I took it out to the sporting clay’s range. It failed on the very first pair of clay’s. I shot at the first clay but could not shoot at the second clay. If I bumped the slide with my finger, it would load. That is not a normal semi-auto practice. The problem occurred with both Winchester AA and SAGA shells. I am very disappointed in Browning firearms and their service dept.

I love my Benelli SBE but I must confess after shooting the new A5 Browning I am very impressed. Patterns great and shoots like a dream. Build quality is excellent and there is nothing cheap about this shotgun. Pricey is my only complaint but you get what you pay for….

Absolutely love the humpback design, points naturally and cycles all loads. The browning quick load feature pulls the first shell into the chamber. Very accurate and dependable. My buddy was so impressed that he bought his own.
