I just purchased a new Browning A-Bolt III. I wanted a Browning but had been reluctant because of the prices. I bought the 270 Win, put a VXII 3x9x40 Leupold scope on it and went to the range. For the first trial I bought a box of Hornady Whitetail and Winchester ballistic silver tip both in 130gr. First the rifle review: trigger is really nice and smooth, butt pad is good and keeps the recoil under control, action is good but not quite as smooth as other Brownings I have owned. The accuracy: Now here is the outstanding news. I shot four groups after getting it zeroed at 1.3″ high at 100yrds….Biggest groups were three with the Hornady Whitetail at .75″, .33″, and .33″. Then switched to the Winchester silvertips shot one group. The first two shots were .3″ apart with the third shot double holing the second shot..at that point, I put the rifle down walked away and sate and drank a cold drink…I could not believe the accuracy of this gun…OK guys this is a real honest report on the A-Bolt III from a regular hunting guy. I Know this is hard to believe but it is the truth. All shots were made from a rest but not a vice at a rifle range run by the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries….Good luck and good hunting….

I bought this gun a couple days ago and I am just now getting a scope mounted and sighted in on it. The reason being is because the factory bolt holes on top of the gun where you mount your bases are bigger than they have ever been on the brownings. The screws they use to take are 648’s and these are 840’s, can’t remember the numbers exactly but I had the hardest time getting bases with the right screws to fit, I had to get regular browning abolt bases, weaver style bases and drill the screw holes out just so the bigger screws will fit down the base and onto the gun. Other than having to deal with trying to get a scope mounted the gun shoots amazing, I had it sighted in within 2 shots. Very accurate and smooth rifle to shoot and hunt with.

This is a great looking gun with a good fit and finish. The trigger is nice and crisp and seems to be close to the 3.5 lb advertised pull. My biggest complaint is that the trigger and trigger guard are polymer but hey, all but one of my handguns are polymer and they’re solid! The bolt is nice but it isn’t a tikka t3. As for the important part: it’s plenty accurate. I bought the 7mm rem mag and shot only cheap winchester power point 150 grn rounds through it resulting in about 1/2″ groups at 100 yards. Makes a guy wonder how well it would shoot with premium match grade or handloaded ammo! Impressive!!!

The AB III scope mounts and magazines are not compatible with the original A bolt or X bolt. Browning makes a base and a one piece base/ring combo specifically for the AB3. I simply ran an online query for Browning AB3 and found the correct items. The one piece mounts are made by Tally and are really nice Worked perfectly.
Looks great with the scope mounted but I haven’t had a chance to go to the range.

Bought his for my son for Christmas. We ran 12 rounds through it to sight it in. 4 out of the 12 would not pull from the chamber without slamming the bolt forward to grab it. Back to Browning for repair.

First off its not a A bolt in anyway, but this gun is a wonderful deer rifle ! I picked it up on sale for 629$ and what a deal .it stacks shot after shot in the bullseye, its very light weight , smooth bolt and a decent trigger right out of the box, dont believe you can buy a better gun for the money and I own alot of guns. good website

I bought two of these rifles when Cabela’s had them on sale and Browning was running a $100 rebate. I bought a .30-06 and a 7mm. They are nice guns and in my opinion they are the best gun for the $. I mounted Redfield revolution 4-12 scopes on each and they are tack drivers. Shot about 2 boxes through each and the guns have worked flawlessly. Not as nice as my X-bolt, but half the price. I also like them better than my Savage model 11.

When I went into browningfirearmshop I had no intent of buying a new rifle. But with the 100 dollar rebate offered at the time this rifle was too good of a deal to pass up.
I got the 7mm Rem Mag. and paired it with a Nikon Buckmaster. After breaking in the barrel following Browning’s recommendation I was able to zero very quickly. For the 7mm rem. mag a bit more for recoil pad would be nice, but most days you are not going to fire 20 rounds.
I’m 6′ tall so I had to home engineer a cheek pad to line up with the scope. The recoil pad was for comfort and better length of pull.
Browning spent time and money on the barrel and action. Where this rifle lacks, in my view, is the one size fits all ergonomics, which is easy to overcome.
You would be hard pressed to find a better value in a rifle you will want to own for years.

I’ve bought this rifle a year ago. Love everything about it. Best bang for the buck. Just wish they made this model in a 338 win mag also would have one too
